Yong In, IIDA, IDEC, ASID, NCIDQ, RID, LEED AP, WELL AP, Fitwel Ambassador, is a multiple award- winning designer, strategist, and educator with over 25 years of experience in spatial design and design strategy. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Purdue University and a Creative Director/Design Strategist at INxD Studio. She regularly writes as a columnist for OfficeInsight magazine. Through her writing, Yong shares her research and insights on design-related topics from a people- first, evidence-based, and human experience-driven perspective.
Yong has a versatile background and extensive design industry experience spanning interior architecture, workplace strategy, product design, and experience design, cultivated through her education at Northwestern University and her roles at design firms such as Gensler, SOM, HOK, and VOA/Stantec, among others. As a whole-brain designer who combines analytical research with creative exploration, she advocates for a science-based and human-centered approach to design. With these design principles, Yong continues to investigate and research how the design of the built environment influences the human brain, emotions, behaviors, and overall quality of life. This approach is enriched by her focused study and ongoing exploration of neuroaesthetics, an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of neuroscience, psychology, and art & design.
She brings this expertise to her work and research, exploring how the design of the built environment can enrich human experience, support emotional well-being, and transform how people connect with one another and engage with their surroundings. Dedicated to advancing the future of the design industry, Yong also mentors and inspires the next generation of creatives through her teaching, writing, and design industry engagements.
