Wellness-Driven Interiorscapes for Sustainable Design

NeoCon Presentation Description: Design professionals are increasingly challenged to create interior environments that support health, wellbeing, and sustainable performance. Biophilic design and neuroaesthetics provide evidence-based frameworks for understanding how humans respond - physiologically and psychologically - to interior environments. This session explores how interiorscapes function as a biophilic design strategy that supports human-centered outcomes across commercial interiors. Shane Pliska of Planterra, in collaboration with Green Plants for Green Buildings, will examine how interior plant systems influence indoor environmental quality, sensory experience, cognitive performance, and emotional wellbeing. Drawing from neuroaesthetic research, wellness frameworks, and real-world case studies, attendees will gain insight into how interiorscapes enhance occupant experience, support WELL and LEED goals, and deliver measurable performance benefits across workplace, healthcare, and public environments.
