Use the Cool Stuff! Vetting New Materials and Products [HSW]

In this presentation, you will learn about early modernist philosophies for understanding materials that will support your cutting-edge designs. We will use examples of this approach to evaluate some ultra-modern materials. By implementing adaptable methodologies, you will become familiar with our frameworks to vet any new product, even emerging materials or less exotic alternates to our standard products. You will be able confidently rely on their beauty, performance, and installation parameters following this method. The method systematically focuses our attention on different aspects and perspectives to give us greater understanding. It uses an iterative process, to identify knowledge gaps and potential risks. We will look at the material's defined use and how to evaluate performance, sustainability, health and safety implications, and even look for unintended consequences. In the end, you should be able to evaluate if the material is right for your project and fits your vision.
