Shared Impact of Light and Sound in Architecture [HSW]

NeoCon Talks Description: Light and sound are two of the most influential elements in spatial design, yet they are often addressed independently. This talk explores the intersection of lighting and acoustics, and why designing them together is essential for creating spaces that truly support human experience, wellbeing, and performance. The session will examine how light and sound shape perception, comfort, focus, and emotional response in workplaces, hospitality, and public environments. Attendees will learn how these invisible elements interact, how early design decisions affect both acoustic and visual outcomes, and why integrated approaches can lead to more cohesive, high-performing spaces. As expectations around wellbeing, sustainability, and multi-functionality continue to rise, understanding this intersection has become increasingly relevant for architects and designers. What makes this talk particularly valuable is its holistic and practice-driven perspective. Rather than treating acoustics and lighting as separate technical disciplines, the session presents them as interconnected design tools that influence how spaces are experienced and used. The session bridges design intent, material innovation, and technical performance, offering insight rooted in real-world application rather than theory alone. Through concrete examples and strategic reflection, the session highlights how integrated light and acoustic solutions can simplify design processes, reduce material complexity, and enhance spatial quality. Attendees will leave with a renewed perspective on how to approach light and sound as a unified design language - and with practical inspiration to apply this thinking in their own projects.

In one sentence, what is the key takeaway that you want the audience to know or feel after hearing this Talk?: Designing light and acoustics together is essential to creating spaces that feel comfortable, perform better, and truly support how people experience and use them.
