The presentation "Navigating Sustainability Certifications in the Design World," explores the critical role of sustainability standards within the design and furniture industries. We will explore the role of single to multi-attribute certifications such as BIFMA LEVEL(R), Cradle to Cradle(TM), Life Cycle Assessments, Declare and Mindful Materials, are explored as tools to navigate sustainability attributes. We'll address the challenge of aligning product certifications with client values, key sustainability trends around Design, reducing product Carbon, sustainable materials, and circularity, to help designers bridge these gaps.

Andrew DeYoung, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Nucraft Furniture, oversees all brand activities, product portfolio, and sustainability initiatives. Andrew has practiced interior design both commercially and residentially, supported furniture brands both commercially and residentially, and was an adjunct professor of Housing and Environmental Design at Olivet Nazarene University.

Ms. Wendy S. Schlett, a Managing Director, graduated from Western Michigan University and has a professional certificate from Aquinas College is currently deploying her passion for sustainability by assisting manufacturers in building strategies, identifying and prioritizing risk, and implementing sustainability and environmental business standards, certifications, and labels. She trains leadership, engages with internal and external stakeholders, and helps an organization to collaboratively develop effective sustainability management systems across diverse program areas within manufacturing. She is active in Business Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), participates in the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Sustainability Standard and is on the Board of the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
